Understanding PTE Core Scoring
The PTE Core test measures the test-takers English level across all four skills. Often, the response to a question contributes to the score in the other skills.
Most Canadian Immigration Pathways for Permanent Residency require PTE Core scores of:
- 22-50 in each skill (CLB Level 4-6) for occupations where the industry is experiencing a labor shortage (agriculture, manufacturing, hospitality, transportation, caregiving, construction, retail)
- 51-59 in each skill (CLB Level 7) for federal skilled workers
- 60-90 (CLB Level 9+) for maximum CRS language points
Applicants for Canadian Citizenship require PTE Core scores of:
- 22-31 (CLB Level 4) in Listening and Speaking (Reading and Writing are not required for Citizenship.)
PTE Core CLB Conversion
- 10–30: Basic English (CLB 4)
- 31–50: Functional English (CLB 5-6)
- 51–65: Competent English (CLB 7–8)
- 66–75: Strong English (CLB 9)
- 76–90: Advanced English (CLB 10+)
